Groundbreaking for a Cause is MARCEL’s signature giving program. Establish in 2019, the program is a celebration of MARCEL’s shared commitment to creating the places that bring people together and supporting those people through philanthropy and community outreach.
MARCEL founder Vernon Marcel Veldekens is no stranger to giving back. As a passionate supporter of numerous nonprofit organization and charitable foundations, it was natural for him to imagine a giving program that puts an unconventional and philanthropic twist on the traditional real estate groundbreaking ceremony.
Groundbreaking for a Cause commemorates the formal kickoff of every MARCEL development project while celebrating the work of local nonprofit organizations serving the communities surrounding the development.
The centerpiece of each Groundbreaking for a Cause event is a shovel ceremony that reveals the names of the local nonprofit organizations chosen to receive a charitable donation from MARCEL in honor of the occasion. The ceremony is also an opportunity for each of the nonprofit organization to spread the word about the import programs and services they provide the surrounding neighborhoods.
